George Leonard Peavy, age 80 of Vidalia, Georgia, passed away on June 11, 2022. Mr. Peavy was born in Toombs County, Georgia on October 19, 1941, to Lillie Maude Peavy and Benjamin Pickett Peavy. He retired many years ago after completing his career as a custom cabinet maker. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, loved to fish, and was always willing to cook a delicious meal for his friends. He was perhaps best known for his kind and friendly personality; those who knew him well understood he never met a stranger.
Mr. Peavy was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Margaret Nelson and Kathleen Burkhalter, his brother John Peavy, and his brother-in-law Lane H. Nelson, Sr. He is survived by his sister-in-law Betty Peavy, his brother-in-law Cleveland Burkhalter, nephews Lane H. Nelson, Jr. (Marian) and Eric Peavy and nieces Sandra Lowery, Connie Deal (Jimmy), and Susan Nettles (Chris). He is also survived by many cousins and second nieces and nephews as the children of those nieces and nephews listed above. Most notably, Mr. Peavy is survived by his dear friend and loyal companion, Grace Cowart, who cared for and loved him for many years prior to his passing.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Meadows Park Health and Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home for their outstanding service in the care of Mr. Peavy since he joined their facility in November 2021 and where he remained until his passing. They also wish to thank Affinis Hospice, especially his RN, Faith Dudley, and Social Worker Ray King, each of whom provided exemplary support and care to him over the last few weeks of his life.
A graveside service officiated by his cousin, Deacon Wayne Kirkley, will be held on Saturday, June 18, at 9:30 a.m. at Marvin Church Cemetery in Lyons, Georgia.
